UPPSC Syllabus
The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) has updated the PCS (Combined State/Upper Subordinate Services) exam pattern to align more closely with the UPSC, most notably by removing optional subjects in the Mains Examination.
The UPPSC Civil Services Selection Process is a rigorous three-tier evaluation designed to filter candidates for administrative roles. Below is the breakdown of each stage:
Stage 1: Preliminary Examination (Qualifying)
The Prelims serve as a screening test. Candidates must clear Paper II (CSAT) with a minimum of 33% and meet the cutoff for Paper I to qualify for the Mains.
- Paper I (General Studies): 150 Questions | 200 Marks | 2 Hours
- Paper II (CSAT): 100 Questions | 200 Marks | 2 Hours
- Marking: There is a negative marking of 0.33% for every wrong answer.
Stage 2: Main Examination (Merit-Based)
The Mains consist of eight descriptive papers held over several days. This stage is crucial as it accounts for 1,500 marks of the total score.
- General Hindi: 150 Marks
- Essay: 150 Marks
- General Studies I: 200 Marks
- General Studies II: 200 Marks
- General Studies III: 200 Marks
- General Studies IV (Ethics): 200 Marks
- General Studies V (UP Special): 200 Marks
- General Studies VI (UP Special): 200 Marks
Note: The Optional Subject has been officially replaced by UP-specific GS Papers V and VI.
Stage 3: Personality Test (Interview)
Candidates who successfully clear the Mains Examination are invited to the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) Headquarters for a 100-mark Personality Test (Interview).
This final stage evaluates:
Personality & confidence
Administrative aptitude
Decision-making ability
Awareness of current affairs
Communication skills & clarity of thought
The interview plays a crucial role in determining the final merit ranking.
